Culture

South Africa is also called the rainbow country because it has very much different cultures. There are small groups of people that have old traditions, they are also called bushmen. A few of this cultures are called: Zuzu, Xhosa, Ndebele, Sotho, the Shangaan and the Verne. Most of these groups have their own language mostly it’s an old, almost dead language. There are also western cultures in south africa they are a little richer because they work and live in a citie. Some cultures are mixed.

 

Food

South African food is colorful and has a lot of different tastes. South African food is very popular by tourists! In their food you can mostly find rice and meat because that's easy to make. The country is very warm and it’s difficult to grow and harvest plants, so they grow rice that can be harvest even when it’s warm. Bobotie is an traditional food in South Africa it’s made of meat, cheese and kind of leafs. Boerewors is also something you need to try, maybe you’ve already tried. It’s also famous in the Netherlands for on the barbecue.

 

Festivals/traditions

South African festivals are colourful, sometimes they wear traditional clothes like a necklace with big beads. The man have an animal skin around their legs. The South African people like music on their festivals, mostly it’s drum music. At some festivals the people wear masks, they wear masks to scare the bad ghosts. The woman mostly wear headscarves in shiny colours.

 

People

The people are mostly black (which is an nice colour) it protects them against the sun, and that’s very useful because the sun shines bright! They are (mostly) very friendly, but the men thinks they own womens. There are forced marriages in the south of South America. Save the children tries to help those girls who need to marrieng when they are 13.

 

School

In the east there are normal schools, but in the west there are more poor people. School is in the west not very common, only boys can finish school. Children need to help their parents on the farm to earn money. They can’t sent them to school and that's terrible. Organizations are collecting money for the children that need a school. The school that are there are full, but they are lucky that they have school.

 

Religion

There are very much different religions in South africa, there are modern but also very old religions. The biggest religion is Christian, that’s a modern religion. There are little religion that are with the bushmen. The old religions are like that from the native Americans.
